Ok. Weesefest is going at the Pour House— the first night was tonight with Left Outlet, The Bright Young Things, Rooster for the Masses, Skullbuckle, and the Trousers.
Tonight features Red Collar, Left Outlet, The T’s, Richard Bacchus and more. Down the block at Tir Na Nog, Motor Skills are (finally) returning to the scene, playing with Mt. Moriah and Lonnie Walker.
Sunday features Day 3 of Weesefest, with some great bands, but I’m going to Craig’s House in Durham to catch Spiderbags. -

So as many of you may know, this week-end is Weesefest (I think I spelled that correctly) at the pour house in raleigh. This is a really timely, up to date sampling of some of the hottest bands currently working in this area, including the bright young things, the t’s, red collar and more.
Red Collar (from Durham) was recently named the best local band in the Independent’s best of poll, and rightfully so. I have never seen a harder working, more intense band with such a devout following. Yet those guys (and Beth) are so gracious, and so enthusiastically involved with local music. They are playing on Saturday, though the whole show is Friday, Saturday and Sunday. If you are interested enough in local music to be part of this group, you owe it to yourself to get to this event.
On Thursday, Durham band Hog is playing @ slim’s. In a previous incarnation, they were the widely heralded band Tooth, but they’ve stripped down to a vicious, loud and altogether fascinating 3 piece that is absolutely worth checking out. I can’t remember who is playing Local Band/Local Beer that night, but that is right around the corner, and always worthwhile. -

Ok. So we’ve got a bit of stuff coming up. Tonight, Colossus is at Tir Na Nog for local band/ local beer. The big one for this week-end is the ”this machine kills cancer” benefit at the Triangle Brewing company in Durham. The event starts at 12:30 pm on Saturday, and features a ton of local bands, including Jason Kutchma from Red Collar, the Mercators, the Pneurotics, and the 3 fantastic headliners (starting at 10 pm), Gray Young, Free Electric State and Hammer No More the Fingers. That is an event not to miss.
One week from tonight, Southern Culture on the Skids and the Moaners are playing a free parking deck show somewhere in Chapel Hill. I need to do a little research to find out exactly where it is, but my suggestion is to go to Franklin St. and listen for the music. -

There is a lot going on this week-end. Friday (6/11), Veelee, Light Pines and Old Bricks are at the Pour House. Also on Friday, Last Year’s Men and the Wild Wild Geese are playing @ ”Craig’s House” in Durham (2702 Lawndale).
On Saturday (6/12), Ryan Gustavsen, Bright Young Things, and Max Indian are at the Pour House. Right around the corner at Slim’s are two brand new bands, Multiples and The New Euphemisms. -

And while you’re down that way, you can drop by Slim’s to catch Spring Collection, featuring members of Hank Sinatra, the Tomahawks, and Bright Young Things.
